Harvey Gough (Goff), the Archie Bunker of the hamburger business, is hanging it up after 50 years at his Lovers Lane location just beneath the Tollway. The man who became notorious for slinging insults and scowling at customers as they waited in line has sold his business and one-of-a-kind grilled burger secrets to James B. Francis III, who has moved the restaurant across the street from Southern Methodist University on Hillcrest. How do you fill the shoes of the legendary curmudgeon who gave Susan B. Anthony coins as change and planted a massive statue of Vladimir Lenin out in front of his restaurant? That's not really Francis's concern. He's going to concentrate on continuing to deliver burgers that were so good, that customers actually endured Harvey to sink their teeth into one. It's usually quite difficult to say goodbye to landmark establishments, but in this case we say, "Here's to new beginnings!"

There are now 2 Goff's Hambergers to choose from. The one on Hillcrest in Snyder Plaza across from SMU, and the new location on Preston Rd. just across LBJ from Vally View Mall.

  • Oooey Gooey Number 10s

Having grown up in Oak Cliff on Goff's burgers in the 60's, I was excited to have a Goff's in Arlington when I moved there in '71 and introducing my son and all our friends to #10s. But alas, there is but one store left and with gas as high as it is, it's a rare treat to drive to Dallas for this special burger. Could Mr. James Francis lll be convinced to return to this college town of Arlington and reopen a Goff's? PLEASE????

  • Nothing like it on the Planet!

Take a #2 Hickory Burger, combined that with a #6 Goff Puppy The Frank Cheesy chili-cheese dog, Add a dash of garlic powder and a splash of Tabasco sauce and there's nothing like it in the World. A Dallas Original! If you've had Sonny Bryant's BBQ, and Rita's and Fajitas at Mariano's, then this is next stop on your list! Walk on in. The service is warm, the grill is hot, and the A/C and DP are cold. Don't forget the fries and pies! Mmmm . . .Apricot!!!
