Just because you're short on bucks doesn't mean you're out of luck. Penny's Noodle Shop -- with a location in Lakeview and two in Wicker Park -- draws fans for its fresh, yet inexpensive noodle dishes. Filled with young people who frequent these areas, this Thai-focused restaurant features a contemporary setting of high ceilings, warm wood tones and a friendly staff. Start with the Vietnamese spring rolls, beef salad or chicken satay. Then follow up with the famous noodle dishes, which include curry chicken noodles, pad Thai, and a spicy beef dish. The Sheffield spot is BYOB (and no corkage fee). All locations feature outdoor seating in the summer, which is a plus when the lines are sometimes down the block on the weekends. To that end, going during the week is highly recommended.

Not authentic and expensive
I have eaten here multiple times and not enjoyed any of the times. The appetizers are good, but the entrees aren't my fav. If you want authentic thai, go 5 blocks down diversey and turn left at lincoln and you will find Jim Noodle. Now thats cheap amazing food.

The food is amazing - especially the Pad Se Eu. The best location is on Roscoe - the waitresses are friendly and the food is always a bit better than the other locations. A great place after a Cubs game or before a night on the town. Affordable and delicious. I've been to many Thai places in the city, and Penny's is BY FAR the best...better than any expensive Thai restaurant. Since I've moved to the suburbs, I crave Penny's even more than when I lived just blocks away. They need to open locations in the suburbs. It is fabulous!!
PKAWASH's Review
Overpriced, average food with way too much attitude...It took FOREVER to receive our meal and our waiter was very rude and not accommodating in the least....It was my husband's birthday (which I mentioned to our waiter) and that didn't even make a difference...The reason I went here was because I heard a few good comments about it -
But I will NEVER go back and I suggest you stay away also....For romance try Chez Shea in the Market..(which is excellent)
