For comfort food with a California twist, Papermoon Diner is a fun, visually overwhelming Hopkins-area hangout. This popular eatery is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and serves everything from burgers to salmon. You can eat-in or carry-out, although eating in is half the fun. Pez dispensers, Cupie dolls, action hero figures, decorated mannequins and various retro toys fill every nook and cranny of the restaurant.
The manager's favorite menu item is Mom's Meat Loaf -- homemade meat loaf baked fresh each day paired with Papermoon's delicious garlic mashed potatoes. Breakfast items are incredible -- the sunflower toast could be a meal unto itself. The menu is very diverse -- quesadillas, vegetarian dishes, burgers, omelets, soups and pastas.
You'll find the clientele is a blend of people -- the luncheon crowd mixes corporate downtown with art institute creatives. The dinner crowd combines Center Stage theatergoers with punk rockers. Traffic is steady through dinnertime, but if there is a wait, it's never more than 10-15 minutes. Large parties can call ahead for reservations.
Parking is plentiful, either at street meters or on Papermoon's lots. Day parking is available on a small lot adjacent to the building on Cresmont; after 5PM parking is available across the street. -- Laura Maguire

Expensive & Burned
Boned1993 - 11/25/2008Having breakfast last weekend, the service was terrible, food was over priced and burnt. If it were 2am and i was starving, i would rather eat at 7-11.

Chev57y - 05/31/2008I just ate breakfast there. Sat 11 am. I ordered a simple breakfast, 2 eggs, bacon, homefries, small oj and coffee. Eggs were fried so hard you couldn't cut them, toast was cold and hard, service bad, and all for just $13.78 plus tip. This is twice I've been her ---the first and last!!!!!!!

WutUmeanUrPrgnt - 05/31/2008You spoke exactly as I would in every last detail. I too have eaten there a hundred times, living in the neighborhood makes it easy. I leave there with the same question, "why do i come back here constantly" and i arrive at the same conclusion. I will confirm to anyone that is unfamiliar with the papermoon that although it is a very interesting place, it is NOT cheap and in a greater sense of the word the quality of food isn't so great to call for such prices. The last thing I would like to say is to the AOL staff you writes the original review, or, whoever it may be, this diner is NO LONGER 24 HOURS! You can go to their website to confirm papermoondiner24.com. Note the 24 in the address, I think it's hilarious they decided to change the hours and more over I think it was the worst thing they could have done. I have not been in there since and I will not be planning on making any visits in the future.

Gilly313 - 05/16/2008I ate at the moon a hundred times when I lived in mob city. The food id interesting, but very inconsistent. That goes to the high turnover of the staff. Most of the short order guys were transient or rug addicts looking for quick funds. The wait staff were poor college kids, with little patients for the drunk mobs that come in every wekend. The prices were definitly not cheap. I always seemed to walk out of there saying "why do I keep coming back here" The reason is simple, the decor, and the great people watching. That and the fact that it is always open helps. There are no other all night diners in that part of town, just south of the Johns Hopkins campus and just north of the charles St. bar scene. So chalk up the moon's sucsess to great decor, unlimited access, and lack of options. But, do not say it is the "cheap eats"
