Dishing out classics such as moussaka, braised lamb stew and stuffed grape leaves loaded with ground beef, rice and heaping scoops of avgolemono sauce, Greek comfort food is what Ikaros is known for. If you split one of the 'small' Greek salads with a friend, that and the grape leaves would make a meal by themselves. Word has it that locals love the spinach and feta pie in phyllo, flawlessly seasoned with a perfect flaky crust.

Reasonably priced, consistently good food has kept diners returning over the years, but part of the draw is simply feeling like you've stepped into Greece. Posters depicting sun-drenched Greek landscapes cover whitewashed walls and bright linen tablecloths and soft Greek music complete the picture. Even in winter, one half-expects an Aegean breeze to waft through one of the family-run restaurant's three dining rooms. -- Penny Colston

Is there a bad restaurant in "Greek Town" (as the sign on the main highway lists it)? Not really. Is Ikaros the best of the best? Yes, because of consistency of the service, food, dining experience. Service is pleasant, quick, the food is old world as anything in the States. To top off my last experience: we went with another couple, who were still ooing and ahhing and sharing, while I went to open the car for fresh air. I had parked by the kitchen, which was receiving a load of fresh veggies. The delivery guy and the top cook asked how everything was---I said, Fresh as could be, what's that flavor here in that dish, the portions are HUGE I feel so guilty!!, thanks for asking. We chatted for ten minutes about the business there, what the old country restaurants are like, would I like to come tour the kitchen anytime, and "let me get you xxx" ( a dessert treat I'd never heard of) to try. A multi-cultural social gastronomic experience; never been disappointed, though sometimes impressively surprised! And great prices!

I really enjoyed Ikaros. I went there with a friend who has been going there for the past 40 years and he feels it is the best restaurant in Baltimore. The dining room has a European feel to it, the food is very good and the Waitresses and employees there make you feel important.

I thought this resturant had pretty good food untill this year at Easter dinner. My mother got E coli . We had eaten here for 2 Easters in a row with no problems Although both times I ate here I got a sore on my tounge 2 years in a row. This time 3rd year, my mom had severe vomiting and diareah and was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. Doctor diagnosed Ecoli from her lamb. I thought it looked rather rare and old. She did not belive me or else she trusted this place. Now We will not eat here again!!

  • Simply the best

I have not had the opportunity to travel to Baltimore for about 3 years. I've been to nearly every Greek Restaurant in Baltimore. None come close to the quality of food and service of Ikaros. The baked squid and the octopus casserole are fantastic. The braised lamb is wonderful. This is high praise from someone who's grown up on Midwestern beef/fish.
Do not fail to try the Greek village salad, stuffed grape leaves or stuffed zucchini. By all means save room for desert.
"So just how good is it really"?, you say.
Good enough that I'm getting off my butt finally, next weekend and flying from Milwaukee to Baltimore with my girl friend, specifically to take her to my all time choice for the best restaurant anywhere.
