The largest film and TV studio in the world, Universal Studios has come a long way since 1915, when silent film magnate Carl Laemmle set up shop on a converted chicken ranch in what is now known as Universal City. The studio tour has evolved substantially as well. Laemmle originally charged guests a quarter a head; in return, they could watch new productions being filmed and maybe even spot a celebrity or two. Eventually, in an effort to compete with the likes of Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, the park's focus was shifted to movie-themed rides and attractions. The backlot tram tour still takes you through such classic set pieces as "The Collapsing Bridge" and "The Parting of the Red Sea," but these days, most Universal visitors come for the innovative, special effects packed attractions and thrill rides.

  • Don't take the family Sunday

    Review rating : 1out of 5   cbhhartley - 07/12/2007

We went up to Citywalk Sunday night and it looked like gangland! They are having "Telemundo" free concerts. It was a very uncomfortable situation. NOBODY spoke english, the employees were speaking in spanish. The theatre was a mess, it hadn't been cleaned. The crowd was unruly The women were not dressed for families...VERY tight short clothing, very sheer and had to have most of there breasts exposed. All the men were in there low rider gear...ugh!

One more place we can't go! Los Angeles is changing for the worse...

We went with some friends from out of town and it was very embarrasing! Very disappointing, we liked going to the theatre and dinner there but, no more!

  • Good, but not great

    Review rating : 3out of 5   apollo2686 - 04/27/2007

Universal Studios is good...But only if you come once every couple of years. The studio tour is very impersonal. If you want a better example of a movie studio, go to Warner Bros. It's expensive, but worth every penny.
