It used to be that if you wanted to dine in a stylish setting in the '818' area code, you had to dial '9-1-1.' Not anymore. From the culture-starved sea of San Fernando emerges Firefly, which brings this small stretch of Studio City real estate into the vicinity of the word "cool." This elegant, ivy-covered restaurant/bar has two distinctly opposed ambient feels in two radically different settings. The first room has a lengthy bar with adequate seating, and sits adjacent to bookshelves full of novels and encyclopedias that help you get soused while feeling enlightened. The less studious should consider the outdoor section, where you're bound to realize how surprisingly sexy this place can really get. With handsome, yet undeniably hard, wooden tables and chairs perched around a 360-degree fire pit, romance and intrigue emanate from flickering candles -- each encased in their own little caverns.
Once you've adjusted to the decibel level that necessitates ordering in soprano, ask for the pancetta-wrapped shrimp served in mustard butter or the hamburger buried underneath bleu cheese, avocado, grilled onions and aioli. There's a croque monsieur with gruyere cheese and pan-fried calamari for those craving additional fat grams in smaller portions, as well as a la carte selections such as fried green olives and sauteed mushrooms. One warning: Be wary of the spacious unisex bathroom and thrill-seekers who may use the expansive wine list as an excuse to venture into the wrong stall. -- Gregg Rosenzweig

awesome

Couldn't beat the food or the environment. The best meal I have had in years. I loved watching the people and sipping top shelf french wine. Prices are worth it and the service is impeccable.
Add CommentFantastic Food, Wine and Service!!!
From the moment you walk into the ivy drenched restaurant, you are in for a relaxed eye and belly of a treat. Lounge in the sultry librarylike bar for a cocktail before having a brilliant dinner. Everthing on the menu is fantastic and the wine list is to die for. My favorites are the Calamari, the seafood risotto, the luscious steak, the cheese plate, the egg and toast plate, the creme brulee . . . . I could go on but I must tell you about the staff . . . they were not only lovely to look at but waited on me hand and foot. I felt like a celebrity among the celebrities. This is a great cozy hang out. I give it two thumbs up.
This is the place

I go out to eat almost every night in some city. I found this place last week and it made LA bearable. Great service, good bar, and priced right. Not your normal LA overpriced rip off. Try it!
Great Evenings!

I've had the great pleasure of eating at Firefly several times and each and every time has been an extremely pleasurable experience. I would rate every aspect of the evenings as very positive except the noise level can get pretty high at times. I am extremely "fussy" about my food and was completely knocked out by all the dishes that I have tried so far. Among the biggest plus of my visits to Firefly is that I always feel like I've taken a trip out of L.A. into some romantic vacation spot! And I haven't spent an "arm and a leg" for my time away!
New to the neighborhood...

Once I got passed the Âtoo-cool-for-school door guy (actually a nice guy) I found a very warm & welcoming bar/restaurant. I must say that I was a bit concerned when I first heard that the dining room was outdoors- I'm not a big fan of eating outside in early December, but with the large fireplace in the middle of the courtyard, the heat lamps and large candles I was very cozy. The food was great my favorite dish, a starter, being the Egg in Brioche a fancied up Birds in the Nest. It was also quite nice to be out in LA and find service people who seemed genuinely concerned about our experience. I'll definitely be back!
dined at bar

we ate at firefly just last week and it was a truely amazing experience. we could not get to eat in the restaurant due to the fact it was fully booked, we happily ate in the bar where the full dinner menu was served, we found the staff knowledgeable and friendly. the N Y steak special was a standout, our entire meal was extremely reasonable, we cant wait to get a reservation and enjoy the full dining experience.
A great find!

A great time... We are a diverse group of couples and yet Firefly pleased all of us. Food: Great. Ambiance: an 11! Staff: Warm and Welcoming - from the Valet, on. Drinks: Fairly priced. Wine list: Unique. Tell a friend, but not all of them - let's keep this between us.
NICE SURPRISE
We had a most delightful evening at Firefly last week. Service and ambience were great and dinner was very good. We'll be going back without question.
secluded and casual cool

Once we found this ivy covered bar/resturant we had a very nice evening. Our party of 14 were accommodated and we sat outside under heat lamps and candles. The oxtail ravoli was a favorite as we all shared many fo this dishes. The service was good, not amazaing and not inedaquate (18% tip). A very unassuming location with a uniquie and uncrowded feel
Mediocre all-around

Disguised as fine dining, but food was NOT good. Risotto and the pork were under-cooked. Drinks were weak, and waitress put on an arrogant act as if she was working in a 5-star restaurant. Not fun.
