The Coach House has been the center of the Orange County music scene for decades, attracting crowds from as far north as the San Fernando Valley and as far south as Mexico. The club headlines hot, new and established artists from the rock, jazz, fusion and country worlds. B.B. King, Shawn Colvin and Uncle Cracker can be found sharing the calendar with Taj Majal, Nils Lofgren, the Beat Farmers and local faves Honk. Dinner patrons have the advantage at most concerts, since shows are general admission with diners scoring priority seating. Family-style and smaller cocktail tables are offered to accommodate different-sized parties. Make pre-show dinner reservations early -- about 380 seats of the approximately 480 seats can be reserved -- and the earlier you call the better your seat.

The low building is funky and plain, with a low-key interior geared more toward music listening than eating. Still, the chow is reliably good and not too over-the-top expensive. Having a hard time finding the place? It's right behind the San Juan Tire Center.
