When longtime Upper Church St. breakfast and lunch spot Hungry Joe's closed down, locals were apprehensive to say the least about what would appear in its place. Fear not: Toast is a more than worthy replacement, plus it's open for dinner. With eight indoor tables, five counter spots and five outdoor tables there is a strong morning hour hubbub, the same hash brown perfume, the same stevedore portions. Go for the blueberry pancakes or outrageous Hash Brown Hill in the morning, or any of the burgers, sandwiches or salads for lunch or dinner. Toast proves change can be for the better.

Sooo Good

I've never had a disappointing experience at Toast. The food is always good and so is the service. There's such a wide variety of things to choose from the menu, the food is top quality, fresh, and tasty, the price is always reasonable and the atmosphere is hip and cozy at the same time. Oh, and the desserts are sooo good. What more can you ask for? I always make sure I come to Toast on off peak times because the waiting list can get long during peak hours. But, it's well worth it!
Add CommentI Don't get it?
I've eaten there only 2x,only after the line at Cloe's was to long, and have always heard about his GREAT place, but was totally disappointed both times. I asked for things to be cooked a certain way, bacon well, potato well and both times they were not. The toast was cold, and the service was awful. I just don't get it?
OK ... But not great
I've been there twice. It's too noisy, and a little too expensive for what it is. The food IS OK... but certainly nothing to rave about. I don't think I'll be going back.... because there are many better choices in San Francisco that are not on your current list.

cozy corner
My kids and I look forward to going to Toast every time we are in Sanfransico. Their portions are large and filling. My favorite is the pear salad, I could never make it the same at home. Awsome!!!!!
The best hot spot !
I have been to too many places, but having my breeakfast at toast was the best I've ever had. The freshness of each dish with full presentation gave a loud "wow "at our table.. I am looking forward to going back and enjoy another breakfast.
scrumptuous

Tucked away in its own little corner of the world is this unassuming no-nonsense eatery serves up fresh delicious meals at quite reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I stumbled into Toast two weekends ago. This place is quite the scene on the weeknds and the food doesnt dissapoint. I had the chicken caesar' salad and he had the GODFATHER omelet. The salad dressing was fresh and had the perfect balance of flavors, not too mention HUGE! ,my boyfriend helped me finish it. The table next to us ordered bluberry pancakes that looked "to die for" , I think i'll try that next time. The dining area is small and sometimes a bit crowded...........but it added to the cozy character and we didnt mind. The service was great, attentive and genuine. This place is a "hit" and a wonderful addition to Noe Valley.
Exceeded expectations

Very good breakfast. Out the door with tip for under $30 for 2. We had the same breakfast as the last reviewer. I thought everything was perfect but the bacon was crispy, I'm a chewy man myself, but I didn't specify that I wanted chewy, so too bad for me. The bacon was very good though. Service was great.
This place is going to be a little out of the way if you are staying in downtown. If you have an early flight into SFO then you may want to mapquest it from the airport for your first stop on the way to down town. They have outdoor dinning.
The parking was hard as we had to circle the block a couple times. They were doing work on the road in front, but I'm sure you could park there if they weren't doing construction. The additional parking was just around the corner as this place is on the corner. If Toast was on the right, then you'd take a right for said parking.
Finally, it's off the 101, but you have to drive down Ceasar Chavez Blvd. to get there, which seemed a little dicey. It was totally worth it to me, hopefully, you'll feel the same way too. The restraunt was a little cramped as well, so be ready for a tight fit through the aisle ways. Hope this was helpful.just okay
This place was not bad thats for sure, however it was not THAT good either. I got the Toast Combo which included pancakes, hashbrown, eggs, and bacon. The hashbrowns were good. The scrabbled eggs were good (can't really go wrong). The bacon was so so, kinda hard. The pancakes were honestly not that good, and on top of that, the butter was so hard and cold that by the time i put it on my pancakes and spread it a little everything else was COLD. Not bad but not somewhere i'd go out of my way to go to again.
