When the owners of the popular Casanova Lounge searched for a space to open a new bar in 2001, they wanted to find a location that would allow for large functions that Casanova's space wouldn't allow. The owners got heir wish when they purchased and refurbished this spacious, juke joint between the Tenderloin and Nob Hill affectionately referred to as the Tender Nob). The bar, formerly known as Giraffe, reopened in November 2001 under a new moniker: Hemlock Tavern.

The Hemlock boasts the kind of elbow room that most San Francisco bar patrons dream about, with an enormous central bar splitting the space in half. The backroom music lounge for live bands and heated smoking patio provide even more space for revelers. Decorated with a Midwestern, kitsch flavor similar to the Casanova, Hemlock is quickly becoming a favorite stop for people attending shows at the nearby Great American Music Hall. The bar features an eclectic mix of DJ nights and live music, and falls back on one of the City's best-stocked jukeboxes on nights when entertainment isn't scheduled.
