In-house dry aging and an old-boys' club setting guarantee diners a juicy rib eye to remember.
For nearly a century, the landmark address of 2100 Van Ness Avenue has hosted some of the finest meals on the West Coast. When Harris? Restaurant opened in 1984, in the old location of Grisons, it continued the rich tradition of luxurious dining in a comfortable sophisticated environment. In fact, Harris? was ranked as one of the nation?s Top 10 Steak houses by the Wine Spectator. Our sister restaurant is Cacti Grill located in Novato, California http://www.cactigrill.com/

The Scene
The throwback decor has the trappings of a venerable steakhouse, with oversized half-moon booths, a skylight banquet room, starched white tablecloths and a nostalgic mural of rural California dominating one wall. Amiable waiters coddle a clientele of Midwestern emigres and carnivorous tourists.
The Food
Like the decor, this traditional steakhouse menu makes no concessions to the modern palate, unabashedly celebrating monstrous slabs of meat and stiff martinis. Garlicky Caesar salad is crowned with a whole anchovy, and time-honored shrimp cocktail is served with a lightly spicy cocktail sauce. Expertly cooked mesquite-grilled steaks are the kitchen's stock-in-trade. The Harris cut is a hulking, bone-in New York that's nicely marbled; the buttery filet mignon is achingly tender. Culinary relics like melt-in-your-mouth prime rib, steak Diane, and steak paillard in cognac demi-glace also make appearances. Desserts include brioche bread pudding and creme brulee.

The best restaurant in SF!
I've been to Harris' a few times on special occasions with my family and each time I'm there, it never disappoints. The service is fantastic, and the food is amazing. The fliet mingon is to die for!
Add CommentWell, not really as nice......

Not really as nice as I expected. Diner and tip were $125 for 2. Very nice look, but not modern. The service was as you'd expect from a high end restraunt. Nice wine list. The food however was not up to par. When I dine at a nice restraunt I expect a flavorful steak. Harris' steak was a notch above an applebee's steak and a far cry from any of the best steaks I have eaten. I was hoping since San Francisco being known for it's wonderful food, that this was a "can't miss." Well, you'll be disappointed as well, if you are going to Harris' for a great-not-to-be-matched dinner. So if you really want to pay for atmosphere then this could be your place, but if you are paying for a great meal as well.......look for another restraunt.
Perfect
Perfect atmosphere (Morton's is good but loud like a rock concert), quiet, subdued, perfect steaks, very relaxing. Like having the perfect dinner at a private club.
No way Jose
Not that good......many places better...and cheaper....for beef in San Francisco.....for one, House of Prime Rib!
We love Harris'
Harris' is the best restaurant in the city by far!! We love the food, drink, service, and atmosphere! If you have not yet been there, you must try it!
Harris Restaurant

Always use Harris for our Christmas dinner. Dinner is always memorable and the thought of dinner lingers for days. Service is great and pleanty of room, unlike some other steak houses Harris offers pleanty of elbow room.
It is not that extraordinary
When compared with the new york steak houses I dont think that the meat is as flavorful. It is not that buttery, grassy and velvety as you would get in New York which still gets by far the best beef. and many steakhoused there offer that type of beef. Granted, Harris' have some nice sauces and the room is also very nice but the beef is on the quality of Coles and the other Bay Area steak houses. Of all of them here, I prefer Alfred's and Izzys and of course the Okeechobee in West Palm Beach when you consider price and quality. The Okeechobee has a salad bar with albeit homemade dressings such as Thousand Island and Blue Cheese, their quality is much zestier than any this side of the Hudson River. Miami has some serious steak houses too Im told.
Heaven on Earth
I had the pleasure of being introduced to this wonderful place on a recent trip and will certainly visit again. From the knowledgeable staff, to their superb wine list and heavenly desserts this was an evening that I was sad to see come to an end. The care in preparation to each dish shows in the simple but beautifully presented masterpieces set in front of you!!! My applause to all your efforts, you do not disappoint!
