With a view of the Ocean Beach pier and, of course, the waves breaking on an expanse of sand, South Beach offers the epitome of SoCal ambience. The specialty here is seafood, and this being San Diego, that means tacos of grilled shark and mahi, fried calamari, barbecued oysters and such. The prices are reasonable for the frequently delicious food: A mere $2.95 for the mahi taco and knock down a buck during happy hour.

The view is stellar, the people-watching superb, and the all-wood interior with its fish paraphernalia provides romantic shabby chic environs well-suited to a convivial night out. The clientele is an eclectic mix of lunch-time business sorts and eventide fun-seekers looking for a comfortable (albeit occasionally loud) spot to have a drink and shoot the breeze. While there, check out the cool jukebox that lets you download your favorite tune from the Internet.

  • great tacos, terrible service

I love South Beach's fish tacos, they are the best by far. The ceviche and shrimp tacos are awesome too if you want to switch it up. It's definitely worth waiting for a table, but the service is crappy at best. Not the place to go if you're in a rush. I'll keep going back though, the food is that good.

  • Best Fish Tacos Ever

South Beach can get crowded and the service can be slow. However, their fish tacos (especially the Mahi) are simply the best I've had. Whenever family or friends come to visit, this is always the first place to which I take them. When they come visit a second time, they always insist on going back. The other food is pretty good as well (great onion rings), but really, you're going for the fish tacos. Well worth spending 45 minutes staking out territory to get a table.

South Beach has great drinks and good bartenders, but horrible waitresses who serve marginal food along with huge, huge attitudes. Sure the fish tacos are good but that is about it, and if they think they can serve a plate of cold cheese and chips with a side of salsa, call it nachos, charge 6 bucks for it and expect people to like it, then obviously they are delusional and have never been to Mexico and had a real plate of nachos. So, if you hit South Beach for drinks and good looking women/men, you are all set, but if you’re going expecting good food and friendly service, you will be sadly disappointed.

Is a great place to start a day, no matter what time. Always have a beer and drink special going. Best treats there are their Shrimp Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers, Shark Tacos, and Octopus Cocktail. Start your OB bar crawl here! (Just wish I still lived nearby)
