A visit to Hodad's, with its signature Hot Curl-inspired mural on the outside and cool half-a-VW bus booth inside, is the best introduction to Ocean Beach culture. With a menu inspired by late-night munchies (it includes every permutation of the hamburger possible) and staff that can give both a surf report and a menu recommendation, Hodad's is an unpretentious, joyful, carnivorous romp.
Hodad's (what surfers call someone who pretends to be a surfer, but doesn't know his barrel from a nice left) has been an OB institution since 1969. The management proclaims, proudly, to have served "under 99 billion", just as it claims to be open 24 hours, "just not consecutively." Vintage vehicle license plates decorate the walls and surfboards the ceiling. The vibe is surf shack with a touch of Corvette Diner. Hodad's is great for a post-surf grind, a bonding meal with the kids or even a first date with a sense of humor.

Pure Nostalgia!
I've been going to Hodad's since the early 70's. I no longer live in DAGO. But, I go to Hodad's every time I visit the area. I have even donated several license plates to add to the ever growing collection they have on the walls. The price is right. The burgers are very filling and served on a basket with a generous portion of fries. I have often seen the place so busy that there would be a line out the door. Great Summer Destination for those looking for a trip back in time to the "Beach Party" era.

I have not been to Fuddruckers since I've tried Hodad's. Good size burger that is under $10. Comes with all the fixings and definitely get it with the cheese and thick bacons. Definitely try the mouth watering onion rings. The line may be long and out the door, but definitely worth the wait. Just be happy to know that a lot of people do also think that it's a great joint.
all about the BACON
I saw this on Dives, Diners, and Drive-ins and had never been and i LIVE in San Diego. I watched the way they made the bacon so it covers the entire burger!!! I went last week and OMG- I am in love. I would definitely recomend it to all! Be prepared to wait in line on the weekends

This is where I learned to make a proper Hamburger
I've never had a hamburger this good before and the best thing is I finally learned how to make a proper hamburger at home by studying this one. By the way, I really hated the Chocolate Malt (or shake) and actually threw it in the garbage.
The best EVER

I'm a former OBtian (though as everyone knows, you can take the dude out of OB but you can never take the OB out of the dude), and I crave Hodad's regularly. Whenever I'm in the area, I stop in for a great meal, and I'm never disappointed. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Hodad's bacon cheeseburger is without doubt the best burger I've ever had, anywhere. I was a bit nervous when they changed locations some years back, but the ambiance, friendliness, and above all the food, is unchanged. I LOVE YOU, HODAD'S!!
