A visit to Hodad's, with its signature Hot Curl-inspired mural on the outside and cool half-a-VW bus booth inside, is the best introduction to Ocean Beach culture. With a menu inspired by late-night munchies (it includes every permutation of the hamburger possible) and staff that can give both a surf report and a menu recommendation, Hodad's is an unpretentious, joyful, carnivorous romp.

Hodad's (what surfers call someone who pretends to be a surfer, but doesn't know his barrel from a nice left) has been an OB institution since 1969. The management proclaims, proudly, to have served "under 99 billion", just as it claims to be open 24 hours, "just not consecutively." Vintage vehicle license plates decorate the walls and surfboards the ceiling. The vibe is surf shack with a touch of Corvette Diner. Hodad's is great for a post-surf grind, a bonding meal with the kids or even a first date with a sense of humor.

    I went here with a family member and was a little worried..... Once we got our food, we literally couldn't put it down. Has to be the best hamburger I've ever had!!!!

    CARL'S JR IS BETTER THAN N&O BUT HODAD'S IS BY FAR #1 WITH ROCKY'S A CLOSE #2. PEOPLE WHO VOTED NEED TO LEAVE THE SUBURBS and GET TO A REAL BURGER JOINT.!!!!!!!!

    One of the best burgers around. Only reason they get beat by In N Out is it's just better known. I do understand they had a "C" Health Dept. rating in their window at one time, might effect my dining there in the future....by the way I heard that second-hand, so that might not be true............

    I have been going here since i was a little girl and it's just as good if not better. They have some of the best burger's, fries and shakes. I have introduced many of my friends to this place and they feel the same way. They have fair prices and the quality of food is always great. The lines outside tell the obvious, no one's going to stand in line for a 1/2hour for crap food.

    An "on your face, drip in your lap, don`t dare put it down, god awful good hamburger". Never had better, including their fries, onion rings and vanilla malts. Check your table manners at the door---.

    I am from NY and everytime I visit Ocean Beach I go to Hodads. The food is great but the atmosphere makes the place. If you ever get there, try a milkshake.

    Hodads' burger is simply the best burger in town.
