Step into the world of Little Italy as it was meant to be. Classic Italian cuisine is at its best in the DePhilippis family's original restaurant (from which seven other locations have sprung). To get to the dining area, you must first walk through an Italian grocery store and deli that is strewn with cheeses, pastas, wine, bottles of olive oil and salamis -- you may want to make a mental note to come back and buy a sandwich to take with you to work. The dining area itself is dark, which helps mask the age of the place. The tables are lined with red-checkered tablecloths and Chianti bottles that substitute as candleholders. Don't be shocked if you end up sitting behind shelves of canned olives; it's a tradition in the restaurant, and the aromas wafting from the kitchen can still find you. The pizza is a must, but the monstrous meatball sandwiches are also tempting, as are the piles of ravioli. Whatever you get, you better have an appetite, because each portion looks big enough to feed you for a week.

When I lived in San Diego for 15 years I lived about 12 miles from Flippis. I am sure that I passed 50 or more pizza places enroute to Filippis but Flippis was the only place my family ever went. The pizza and antipasto salad are to die for. Add a picther of beer and you have the perfect meal. Even now whenever I visit San Diego Flippis is a must for one nights dining.

Not just the best pizza, but also best value, ambiance and generous portions! We bring all our out of town guests there & they talk about it for years.

And it's still our favorite pizza, great antipasta, well everything! More birthdays, graduations, out-ot-town visitors celebrated here than at home! Walk through the grocery area and prepare to enjoy the food, the atmosphere and already look forward to your next visit.

You'll never catch a real Italian eating that pizza. ( I know, I AM one.) It's a fun atmostphere in Little Italy, but jeez...that rubbery goo they top their pies with is hard to swallow! There's a new place in town that's making the competion shutter with the BEST pizza EVER! Don't miss out on Giacalone's Ristorante on Rosecrans in Point Loma. See what pizza's supposed to taste like. You won't be dissapointed..

I used to live just on the NJ side of the George Washington, and that is the area of America where one can get real pizza. These folks out here in San Diego wouldn't know Italian if it was to bite them in the face, and Flippi's is a prime example.
