So a few weeks back I had family from the Midwest come here to visit me and one night I suggested the Gaslamp area. We came down and I started to recommend different restaurants in the area. As we passed each restaurant, My family would look at the menu and say "Naw we don't do Thai, or Indian or Fish...." I had an idea, I bought them over to Croce's. They looked at the menu and Thankfully declared "YES!" We couldn't have made a better choice. from the start of French Onion soup, through the Salads (They have this one salad, it's wrapped in a seedless cucumber - looks like a jewel box. Didn't know if I should eat it or admire it. I ate it!) They had pasta's Beef , chicken EVEN meatloaf. Service was Very pleasant and it was a great place to people watch. While we were not sitting in the bar area (Where the music was) we were able to enjoy the music and the lively attitude that it created. I am definately going back!

Croce's is one of my favorite places to go. The food is amazing and the wine list is very impressive. I recommend trying the filet it is delicious. The nightly music keeps the evening going. Sunday night they have the Archtones and they are fun and upbeat. Great place to take a date!

  • Recent experience at Croce's

    Review rating : 4out of 5   rylan0216 - 05/21/2008

I recently had dinner with my husband, in- laws and my son at Croce's Restaurant. As always, we enjoyed everything from the appetizers, entrees to the dessert. We love to come to Croce's every chance we get. All of our out of town family members love to eat at Croce's when they come to visit us in San Diego too. We really like how the staff at Croce's is very friendly to us. It's also great when the Chef and Owner stop at our table to say hello and to see if we are enjoying our meals. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all locals and visitors of San Diego!!! We will be back again soon!!

  • Great hospitality, music and atmosphere

I have always enjoyed eating at Croce's. They have a great menu and there is always something for everyone. Their Swordfish is delicious and the Rack of Lamb is to die for! The wine list is very extensive and they have won the Wine Spectator Award. They have live music every night and they are always local musicians. It's great to have a place that supports local music. They have every kind of Jim Croce CD you can possibly want as this restaurant is owned by Ingrid Croce, his widow.
I suggest coming down to Croce's anytime of the week as it is always a fun place to eat, drink, and listen to live Jazz!!

  • must have been a one-off

    Review rating : 1out of 5   aemikeg - 01/15/2006

The menu looked interesting and the place was packed so we went for it. We didn't have reservations and Ingrid was kind to offer us a table upstairs. The waiter was generally professional and competent. I just didn't want to complain about my spoiled wine (Melini Chianti) and the barely warm food. I ate the meatloaf (24.95) which was, too me, over processed and dry with all together too much cumin. I've heard the steaks are great and the chicken was ok. After trying the meatloaf I would likely be dissapointed with the meatballs though the description in the menu is very appetizing. I won't go back for dinner but I would like to spend some time in the bar while a band is playing.

  • Ambiance & Jazz Second to None

The middle of the week is usually uneventful around town, but the jazz bar on thursday night is the place to be. The menu is exquisite and the drinks are excellent. The Jorge Camberos Quartet plays latin jazz with an ambiance you can find anywhere else in the city. This four piece jazz group will astound you to say the least. Mid-week blahs...? Your relief is at Croce's on Thursday night.

My husband & I love this place. And to mention my husband likes Jim Croce's music. He always has his business dinners here. The food is wonderful. And we are never rushed!! We brought friends Friday nite, altho its been over a year since we've gone out downtown, and we were bummed to find out they had shut down the upstairs bar..I use to like drinking, talking and people watching from up there. Croce's is not cheap, but for the price there is live music, great food (I had the AHI which is always wonderful, friends had the filet which they commented it just melted in their mouths, and another had the swordfish which she also raved about), oh and they make GREAT Lemon drop martini's!! We listen to jazz a while till it got so crowded then moved on to listen to Soul'd Out--which was fun! Overall, we had a great evening!
