A few positive phrases come to mind when people bring up the Orange Hill: spectacular Sunday brunch, great view overlooking the entire north county, memorable wedding receptions. Unfortunately, there are some phrases that aren't so favorable: forced valet parking, extremely long waits (even with reservations) and very high prices. But don't let these facts deter you from one of the best dining experiences in Orange County. As far as the menu is concerned, Orange Hill keeps it very basic: thick steaks, fresh fish, seasoned poultry and exceptional lamb. You can't go wrong with anything you order here, the master chefs see to that. The real reason OC restaurant aficionados keep returning is the atmosphere: wedding parties, couples celebrating anniversaries and those newly in love swear by this place. There are also several special events throughout the year, including a big Thanksgiving celebration and festive New Year's Eve shindig. Also be sure to make time to lounge by one of the outdoor fire pits overlooking the city, while sharing a good bottle of wine. -- Michael Alarcon

  • Its about time!!!

    Review rating : 4out of 5   ocfood911 - 04/10/2007

I have not been to this restaurant in 4 yearsand let me tell you this place was as bad as it could be with bad food and bad service. So I was very skeptic in going there again with friends in town. Well when we arrived we had 7:30 reservations and the place was very busy as we had to wait for our table for a couple of minutes. We then got sat and I was holding my breath that we have a good time. Let me say this the place has made a big difference in food and wine. The sommelier was a french guy who great and the food is so much better than what i can ever remember. We ate the calamari (one of the best i have ever tasted) as well as well as the scallops which I wish it came 4 pieces instead of 3 because we were a party of 4 but nonetheless it was very delicious. The seabass and the tableside halibut was to die for as well as the filet with crabmeat. Its about time this restaurant used its great food and wine and not the view to help over see bad food and service as it has done before in the past.

  • Go somewhere else

    Review rating : 2out of 5   jypark425 - 03/24/2007

I have been to the orange hill numerous times. The quality of food and service have seemed to go down in recent years. We asked our Filet Mignons to be cooked Medium and they were cooked almost well done, the Foie Gras wasn't prepared properly, charged me 5 dollars for few pieces of romaine lettuce with cesar dressing drizzled over it. Service was also very slow because they were so busy. It took them 15 minutes to seat us eventhough we had reservations and 1 hour to get our food to us.

Go somewhere else for the money, you'll get better food and better service.

  • Waste of money

I've had their Sunday brunch twice now and have not been impressed. It is very busy, and we were stuffed in the back banquet room. The view is the only nice thing about this place. The service was ok. The food was standard, not worth the money. I wont be revisiting here again.

  • service sucks

The title says it all, the service just plainly sucked.

  • Christmas Brunch

    Review rating : 3out of 5   formerbc - 12/26/2006

Christmas Brunch. The server was inattentive, and we had to make several requests for drink refills, even going so far as to ask two other employees before receiving our first soft drink refill. The soft drinks were extra, with no free refills, so you would have thought they'd want to sell more!

Quality of food was inconsistent. Prime rib was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chicken, however, was extremely dry. The breakfast items such as french toast, eggs, etc. were taken away too early, to be replaced by lunch/dinner items that were already available at three other serving areas.

The food quality and service did not live up to the $100 pricetag, before tip, for two people.

The tables were too close together. The view was, indeed, as wonderful as everyone has said.

  • If it has to be special

    Review rating : 5out of 5   shawngpio - 10/14/2006

I wanted somewhere special to take my wife for our anniversary. I had tried different places over the years and none of my selections (Sir Winston’s @ the queen Mary or the sky room) seemed to be what we wanted. I set the reservations for thirty minutes before sunset so that we could eat dinner to the sunset and so that we could see the city lights after sunset. The evening was perfect .The service was impeccable and the food superb. The person who previously wrote that the valet parking was forced is correct but honestly, do you really want to get dressed up and then walk through a dirty parking lot with that special person just to save a five-dollar tip. If you are looking for that one special place and it has to be right then this is the place for you.

  • Holding My Breath

    Review rating : 1out of 5   awinn32 - 05/04/2006

I have reservations for 4 tomorrow night - Thus far - I AM NOT IMPRESSED - or even excited about going!!! The hostess is RUDE and CONDESENDING. They tell YOU what time you will eat dinner, and you cannot make a table request. This restaurant was highly recommended to me, and one of my guest really wants to go, so I have changed my reservation time to accomodate the restaurant!!!! I can't believe I even stayed on the phone after the hostesse's attitude of "I could really care less if you come here or not" came back through the phone!!!! I wll definately follow up with a review of the food and atmosphere - but based upon the other postings I've read I am probably going to spend a miserable evening at this place.

  • GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE

    Review rating : 5out of 5   jgozbak - 04/24/2006

What impressed me most was the wonderful and attentive service. Our server "JAY" made us feel like VIP guests. The anticipated our every need before we even had to ask. The view is amazing. Food is outstanding. Very romantic! Best part of the night was after dinner enjoying the view by a fire pit outside. I would recommend this place if you want to empress your loved one with a romantic evening.

  • Over-priced & Over-rated

    Review rating : 2out of 5   lzwetz - 04/20/2006

View is lovely and the food is good, however, it certainly wasn't worth the hefty price tab or the forced valet parking or the wait when you have reservations. Orange County Mining Co. offers the same without the overpriced tab & long waits because you still get the beautiful ambiance, view, great food and the staff is accommodating. My money goes to Orange County Mining Co.
