After getting evicted from its longtime East Palo Alto location, Uncle Frank's relocated to the back room of Francesca's, an institution on Mt. View's Old Middlefield Way. You have to walk through the bar or pool room to get to the kitchen, so for now, the joint is open to 21-and-older patrons only. That's too bad for the kids because the barbecue is simply delicious.

Twenty bucks may sound like a lot for barbecue, until you realize that Uncle Frank's two-meat combo will feed you for the better half of a week. And it feed you well! Tender chunks of smoky beef brisket, ribs that you could eat with no teeth, Louisiana hot links, or juicy, flavorful chicken, all served with tasty Louisiana sides like Cajun corn (creamed corn with a kick) or pineapple candied yams. This is not the spot to bring your vegetarian friends - there are no veggie kebabs or grilled meat substitutes here, kids, Uncle Frank's is all about huge piles of meat. Glorious, smoky delicious meat, served up in the back of a dive bar. Word to the wise: The place sometimes run out of food later in the day, but lunch time is always a safe bet.

  • My 50th b-day party

I celebrated my 50th birthday at Uncle Frank's. My family and friends enjoyed the BBQ, and many have gone back on their own. The staff was wonderful and made all my guest feel welcomed. Will's band Vicious Groove also entertained. The band was great! We had everyone on their feet, having a great time. Personally, the brisket is my favorite. For me, one order equals four meals! When I'm in the mood for BBQ.....I drop by Uncle Frank's

  • Good, not great.

The brisket does not compare to some of the bbq in Texas but for California it's good. Good smoke flavor on the meat but the sauce is lacking and the side of potato salad I got was small. I see people raving about the service on here and my experience was completely different. The staff was acting like they were doing me a favor and were not hospitable at all. 2 stars, good for California but this place would go out of business in Texas.

The Portion sizes are very generous, serve 'em up with Southern-Style sides. The Brisket, Ribs, Chicken and Links is the best in the West. Yes, this is certified, Southern Barbque in Northern California.

The brisket is the best I've ever had. What really sets this place apart from all the other BBQ joints is the service. I have not encountered a friendlier or more responsive staff in any other BBQ joint on the peninsula. I wish them continued success.

I've been to many BBQ laces around the East BAy...Flint's, etc.. and Uncle Frank's is one of the best. In addition to their fantastic food, they are great hosts. Generous portions that are a challenge to finish. The fish is also fantastic. Uncle Frank's is well worth the trip and I guarantee you will be back again.

the unluckiest of all people. I can literally walk out of my front door, turn right, walk 100 yards in a straight line and be inside Francesca's. It is all I can do to limit myself to a trip a week. The aroma hits me everyday after work. It's tough. Everything on the menu is excellent. All of the sides are interesting. I love the cajun corn. The desserts are all a treat. We used Frank's BBQ to feed two softball teams at the end of last season and made him about twentyfive new customers. Portion sizes are very generous, a two-way combo is a two day meal. Good thing I'm writing this at 9:16 in the morning or I'd be on my way there as soon as I hit "Send."
