Fine dining it's not. The strip-mall location is drab, the lighting is fluorescent, and the dining room bears an uncanny resemblance to a high school cafeteria. But who really cares when the food is so crunchy-greasy-garlicky good . . and so cheap! Rotisserie chicken is the obvious choice and it's excellent, especially with the house garlic sauce and warm, oven baked pita bread accompaniments. But shawerma -- either as a platter or in a sandwich -- is also worth a try, and so are the kebabs if you've got enough time and patience to wait while they're cooking. If you don't recognize some of the dishes from their menu descriptions, just look at the photographs on the wall. Approach the otherworldly hot pink vegetables that are served alongside your main course cautiously -- they're pickled turnips, and they've got quite a bite. -- Lena Katz

    I've been eating this food for years, its great and you can expect it to be the same all the time,some places after they succeed the quality changes, not this place its owesome all the time

    great chicken with a great cheap price. Shows you can get a tasty cheap meal from a place other than Chinese. House garlic sauce can be used for garlic toast, and I've used it to make pizza blanco. The decor reminds me of a local college campus eatery...but a fun funky ethnic place ya gotta love when ur in L.A.

    Unlike any other foods. I've had a good share of fast food restaurants from all over the world. Zankou's just something special. They serve meals that would make you continue eating even when you're full, and then some. However, your explosive stomach shouldn't and wouldn't feel guilty because a) it doesn't settle for anything but fresh, b) it's all natural with no freezers, cans, microwaves, artificial....whatever!! It's all fresh, c) it's healthful, d) it's faster than fast-food, but still isn't made till you order it, ... I can go past our limited alphabet. Bottom line, it's a local favorite, so if you're from out of town, try it. If you're from SoCal, don't think twice. As you can see, they've made a fan out of me. My pockets seem happy too.

    I tried the chicken based on the user reviews I read here; after driving 23 miles to do it. The chicken was dry at best and the flavor just wasn't what I was led to expect.

    Chicken was ok a little bland. Good pita bread and garlic sauce. Not cheap.
