Don't let the tiny dark room you enter from the street fool you -- this is one of the most popular terrace bars in Silverlake. The first floor is a woodsy little dining room where occasional entertainers play. Waitstaff in lederhosen serve traditional German eats along with select specials like steak tartare. Upstairs is the large covered beer garden full of loud folks drinking pilsner. A full menu of German food is available up here, too. Opinions are mixed on the food but it's hard to argue Red Lion's welcoming tavern vibe. Just like you're back in college, and everyone's parents are there too.

mattay9876 - 05/11/2008They really do have the best quality German beer here, the food is tasty and affordable. Great vibe on all levels, an always smiling staff and a fun live piano player downstairs. Definitely worth checking out!
Used to be better
fsharp3 - 06/08/2006A new owner's recent changes (over the last year) and the opening of a busy but really shabby bar across the street have killed this place's character. The food used to be much better. The place that used to be a great calm conversation bar is now often filled with rowdy drunks.
