All it took was a few minutes for 1994's Northridge earthquake to reduce the original Hollywood Billiards -- built in 1916 by movie mogul Louis Mayer -- to a wrecking ball's dream. Four years and $3 million later, Hollywood Billiards resurrected itself just three blocks west of its former space. Along with its ruined space, Hollywood Billiards took great pains to demolish its image as a "no-frills" pool hall. In addition to its full service restaurant, karaoke room with massive projection screen and two full bars and heated outdoor patios, the reinvented space also has a sports bar with eight Sony flat-screen TVs and 32 Gold Crown pool tables swarming its two main floors. There's even a private VIP room with its own Gold Crown and flat-screen for the elitist pool shark. Foosball, air hockey and darts are also on hand for amusing attempts at hand-eye coordination after a sampling of the 32 available import and domestic drafts.
