Everyone knows that Habana is one of the top restaurants in Orange County, but what most people don't know is that its cozy little bar has some of the smartest mixers when the kitchen closes for the night. Although the bar serves drinks as long as the restaurant's doors are open, the real nightlife doesn't begin until the hip local workforce comes in for happy hour. Once the kitchen closes (usually around 10PM), the nine-to-fivers leave, and the second wave of regulars inhabit the bar and intimate corners of the lounge. The already dark bar area gets even darker, with the only real light provided by candles, giving the lounge a Gothic/Spanish atmosphere. You can't go wrong with anything off the bar's martini selection, but if you're adverse to the hard stuff, go with the sangria -- it's probably the most popular drink on the list.

i've been going to Habana since it opened. there have been ups and downs over the years, but it's always remained a consistent favorite. currently the drinks and food are at a peak. one of the best mojitos in town. and the empenadas are delicious.

  • Awesome Food - Rude Service

Wow - The Salmon they serve is the most awesome salmon I have ever had. This is and the ambiance of the place redeems the restaurant however. The waitress I encountered was dang rude - wtf mate?

Unreal...the candle light, the ambiance, a feeling of urban sophistication, what a beautiful evening. We just kind of stumbled into this restaurant, we felt like we were walking into an exclusive private club that’s hidden by an urban legend. The cuisine is Nuevo Latino with a Cuban influence. After are dinner was served both Chef Carlos and Chef Luis stopped by to make sure we were happy. They put a 6 foot bbq on the patio and lit up the midnight sky with huge flames of Rum. They made us and anybody else wanting, the best Banana Fosters we had ever had. What a way to end an AWESOME night. Prices were midrange but well worth it.

  • Anything but Cuban

    Review rating : 1out of 5   ramonitar85 - 05/15/2006

Habana in San Diego - they forgot to bring the chef from Austin. and Miami and from all those wonderful places with wonderful reviews. "Grand Opening": no tamarind drinks; requested Mango. Was expecting a delicious fresh Mango drink in a tall glass, instead, I got a can of Mango nectar costing $2.25 when I buy them 2X$1 all over San Diego. Tasteless arroz con gandules. Gandules were not found in the rice. For the menu of my choice, they did not have Papa rellena. I got burned tostones. They forgot my beans. A fly got into my Mango drink. Waited over 10 mi. for my beans and water. What a disaster! Never again!

I just love this place! It's a quaint little corner of Orange County and you get the feeling you've been transported to another country. Great ambience, unique and fabulous food. The service has always been excellant too. We love the Mojito's for drinks. Inside or outside it's fantastic.

I went here thinking it was a Cuban restaurant, hence Habana. This is NOT Cuban Food. It does not even get close. A view it does have...of the parking lot that is. Don't bother with the sangria you'll be disappointed. Order the Mojito if you like sugar syrup. Perhaps the bar is fun after 10pm. I wouldn't count on it. I give it one star for the Flan.

I went there last night for a friend's birthday. The ambience was totally breath taking, the music was just right. The food was fab and so was the FLAN!!!! I had the night's special which was the New York Steak with a Mojito as a beverage! Everything was great the Flan really is fantastic!! If there was one thing I would change it would be the portions. Most of the guys with our party was still hungry. I guess it was our fault too since we didn't order appetizers. All in all everything came out to be approximately $35/person. Not bad at all! :)

  • *Great* food

The food at Habana is excellent! The outdoor patio is very beautiful for a sunset dinner. The music is great in the background, the waiters/waitresses are polite, courteous, and helpful. The atmosphere is very calm and cozy. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've been too. If you go, make sure to get the Cafe Cubano desert, it's an award winner for a reason!
