It's not just a clever name, there really is a bull's head on the wall of Bullshead. Otherwise, the restaurant is not much to look at, but this isn't the sort of place you come to looking for ambiance. Bullshead is all about the meat - the steak is excellent and burgers are made fresh from the beef or buffalo you see in the case upon entering. Your burger (organic or not, beef or buffalo, and with your choice of extras like cheese, chili, and avocado) is cooked to order and this place actually knows the definition of medium-rare. Fries are hand cut and tasty, and the salad bar is stocked with the iceberg lettuce and shredded-carrot salad fixings that only meat lovers enjoy.

Best Buffalo Burger

KarynAnnBosso - 05/25/2008The Bullshead on West Portal is one of my all-time favorite burger places EVER! You can choose between beef or buffalo burgers, 1/4 lb, 1/3 lb or 1/2 lb sizes and a variety of fixin's. One of my dear female friends and I meet here frequently for our "burger and vino cackle-fests." My friend loves to get their Bleu Cheese & Mozzarella topped burger - she says that Bullshead is the only place she knows that makes that combination. I am partial to the 1/3 lb mushroom burger with onions and cheddar cheese - YUM! The fries are freshly cut and are not greasy at all! Bullshead also serves steaks - you get a good look at the fresh meat when you walk in the door - good looking ground beef & buffalo and thick, marbled steaks - OH YEAH! They also have a salad bar. For beverages, coffee, tea, soft drinks, milk and beer and wine. The service is outstanding - the place is family owned and run by people who really go out of their way to make sure your dining experience is a good one.

chocotini - 03/19/2007NOW WITH 2 LOCATIONS (West Portal & 18th ST in the Castro) This IS the best burger in town hands down! Who else grinds their own meat daily? (OK NO JOKES!) Take it from a SF native. I have never had a bad burger at The Bullshead. Even the graden burger is Faboo. And their house cut fries....HEAVEN. Try the bacon avacado burger with your choice of cheese. You can not go wrong. And Buffalo? Who knew?!
