Since 1922, when Jack and Ida Holt first opened the doors of their old-fashioned diner, one thing has remained the same: Jack's commitment to serving simple, good food at affordable prices. And although ownership has changed since, you can still count on down-home good food with a cozy touch. The menu, which is reminiscent of your grandma's kitchen, includes specials such as fried bologna with pepper jack cheese surrounded by slaw and chips, or thick, spicy, homemade bean soup and a side of cornbread dripping with whipped butter. And of course, there are Jack's terrific burgers, which are grilled the old-fashioned way and have earned a loyal following of their own. Follow up your meal with any one (or three) of a half-dozen desserts, which change daily. (Pray for pecan pie!) Hand-dipped velvet ice cream can put the a la mode in your dessert, or be swirled into an old-fashioned milkshake so thick that your straw will pucker. Yesteryear values rule the roost: Jack's accepts no credit cards, takes no reservations, will never serve liquor and does not subscribe to toy-laden children's meals. They do, however, embrace downtown workers, and if your hectic day heads south and your lunch hour is swallowed up by chaos, call ahead and they'll have whatever you request ready for pick up in 10 minutes.

Great little diner downtown behind the Rhodes tower. GREAT Burgers. Try the Double Cheeseburger Special with a Milkshake. Diner Food + Diner Style + Diner Prices = Diner-ific!
