As an upscale restaurant with outside seating and an eclectic menu, the Island Grill has a few surprises. The sushi bar, tiki bar and extensive wine menu make this a great place to take out-of-town guests you are trying to impress. There is also a full sake menu, from which all sake is served warm.
Seafood is a specialty here, with fresh Florida catches often on offer. A favorite dish is the bamboo-steamed salmon filet. The salmon is wrapped in bamboo with vegetables and comes out perfect. Also very popular is the grilled king crab legs. Fans of crab who don't like to dabble in the cracking of king crab legs are pleasantly surprised to find the work already done for them. The chef cracks open the crab leg shells horizontally so you just have to fork out the meat inside. Make sure you get a taste of the five-spice mashed potatoes.
Sunday brunch is one of the bay area's best, with live entertainment on the tiki deck. Buffet options change weekly to reflect the season's fresh selections, but you'll always find Eggs Benedict, sushi, an omelet station, Cajun crawfish and the chef's homemade dessert table.
Outside seating is great in the winter months. Tiki torches burn and umbrellas cover each table nicely.

MsFLbroker - 11/28/2008This Sunday Brunch is a must for us whenever we are in town. Simply the best anywhere. The chef prepares outstanding hot entrees, the breakfast station is superb, and the salad bar far surpasses expectations. Service has been wonderful every time we have dined here. And be sure to visit the restrooms. Their decor is a destination in itself!

Rwetpa - 06/19/2008You must be kidding. Been there more times than desired, due to others. Mediocre at best. Not good food and not good service. They pay for their ads to get into magazines as "great and best". Certainly not from discriminating patrons.

jillyred - 06/16/2006My favorite restaurant in Florida -- not only is the food outstanding (all of the sushi is wonderful, and the lamb is out of this world), but the service is exceptional and professional. We had the rehearsal dinner for my daughter's wedding there (70 + people) and even though there was a last minute change of location due to a rainstorm, everything went absolutely perfectly, and our guests are still raving about the menu and service. We no longer live in Florida, but we make a point to get to Clearwater four or five times a year JUST to have our Island Way Grill fix. (One point about the editor's review -- they have a great sake menu, but specialize in some of the lesser known COLD or room-temp sakes -- our server was delighted to bring us a sampling of several when we asked about the differences among the different sakes.)
