The first Washington outpost of this growing, Oregon-based national chain has a passionate following, and not only for their excellent pancakes, but also for their consistency. Order anything made with batter and you'll know bliss. Not that there's anything wrong with eggs, but French toast is fabulous and pancakes -- whether sourdough, Swedish, apple or potato -- are sublime. The buttermilk pancakes melt in your mouth. You pick the topping, from bacon bits to chocolate chips and slather on the whipped butter. The lemony, lighter-than-goose-down Dutch baby, a cake-sized souffle with a custard center, is justifiable cause for the long lines that form on weekend mornings. Assorted bric-a-brac and knotty pine create an early American motif enhanced by swift, relentlessly sunny servers who never let your cup of coffee run low. It's good coffee too, with real cream. It all adds up to one of the area's best places to eat breakfast -- which is served until mid-afternoon. After 11AM, you can also order from the extensive lunch menu.

And try the lunch menu too
Breakfasts to die for, even beyond the pancakes, try the bacon or omlettes, with lots usually left over to take home. Lunch menu is great, but unavailable on the weekends. We've tried the Ballard/Crown Hill location, just as good but we can't walk to it like Kirkland's. Staff is great, like a big extended family.

I have eaten this breakfast since the 50's in chicago. We were little and did not mind waiting in line. It was the best breakfast ever. Then when we moved to Michigan, i ate there too on Woodward ave. The only problem is that it is very expensive....I Can't believe they still charge so much for eggs. And the portions are too big, but it is the best!
Longtime favorite
I ate at a Southern California installation of this chain for years. Either the quality has slipped a little or I am losing my taste for big breakfasts, because I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Still, it's well beyond most breakfast joints on the Eastside. Try the pecan pancakes.
