It's as cute and rustic as a B&B tucked away in the country, yet it sits right in the posh, bustling heart of downtown La Jolla. The Cottage has utilized its trademark quaintness to become one of the most beloved breakfast and brunch spots in the county. The century-old, canary-yellow edifice is one of the few remaining original cottage homes built in the area around the beginning of the 1900s. The interior is small, yet bright and airy, with hung artwork and comfy booths; however, most patrons will wait for a patio table. As guests dine outdoors under the sun, the scent of flowers from the surrounding planters and hedges wafts over them, carried by the salty sea air.
Breakfast and lunch are The Cottage's specialty, and the establishment is busy non-stop because of it. Classic items are given an upscale twist with gourmet technique. Country-style French toast uses brioche bread for that extra something. Omelets are delectable and prepared with anything from mashed potatoes to guacamole, to sundried tomatoes. As the day wanes, light fish tacos, lemon-rosemary chicken, crab melt sandwiches and signature salads delight guests and ensure the continued popularity of this La Jolla jewel.

Breakfast in Heaven!
The Cottage is a real find for those who enjoy dining outdoors: It's as if you woke up for Breakfast in Heaven! You enter through a real double-rose arbor, after which you're seated at an umbrella sheltered table in the lavish fragrant flower-filled garden full of fountains and sometimes even butterflies! It's unlike any alfresco dining I've ever experienced!
Don't accept a table inside the cottage, the accoustics there are terrible and it's filled with kitchen noise.
The buttermilk pancakes (filled with fresh raspberries or sliced bananas cooked inside the pancakes themselves) are our favorite breakfast treat. The Chef and staff are so nice, they'll put both fruits in your pancakes if you ask. Everything on the menu is fabulous. so there is usually a bit of a wait at the garden gate and a few cottage benches to sit in on the sidewalk...it really was once somebody's home.
I am always inspired by the Cottage's garden patio, and confess that I transformed my own garden with an arbor, a fountain and an umbrella'd table...(the butterflies showed up too!) but we return again and again to the Cottage to enjoy the relaxing ambience of the best breakfast in San Diego!
We've lived here for 16 years and always take our visitors to enjoy it. Afterwards we walk a few blocks to the Cove, enjoying the delightful shops on the way and the relaxing ocean views from the park at the Cove. What a day! Can't wait for visitors so we can go again!Comments(0)|Add CommentYummy Salads
I recently visited The Cottage when I was in La Jolla on vacation & I absolutely loved it!! The outside seating under the sun was wonderful & the Jamacian Shrimp salad was extremely yummy!! :) For anyone who is in the area or anyone who travels to La Jolla, I highly reccommend stopping by The Cottage!!!
