Pamela's feels a bit like a retro diner thanks to a black-and-white checkerboard pattern on the floor and counters. Artwork, however -- some with bright splotches of color -- gives the restaurant a highbrow touch. The main meal here is breakfast, which is served all day. The tasty hotcakes, big enough to hang off the plate, are what really pack 'em in. Choices include banana-walnut, chocolate-chip banana, apple-walnut and strawberry. In fact, the strawberry flapjacks are so popular they're not available every day, according to the waitstaff. (After all, they sell like, er, hotcakes.) Crowds also push in for omelets of corned beef and Swiss cheese, spinach and feta cheese, and tomato, green pepper and onion. Though breakfast is the main attraction, the lunch crowd can nosh on sandwiches such as the Shadysider, a double-decker burger and the Oaklander (turkey breast topped with coleslaw). Pamela's serves all comers with basics that go beyond the ordinary.

Pamela's the Best
I'm from the eastside of Pittsburgh and I always shops on Walnut St. after all of that shopping I have to stop at Pamela's to get the pancakes, ham, and potatoes. My ex-fiance and I use to get up on Saturday or Sunday mornings we would call in our order and by the time we get there it was already done or we would eat in. The one in Shadyside the staff is always friendly and helpful and very fast. When I move from Pittsburgh soon I will miss Pamela! I'll catch them when I come to visit my parents and friends.

I had breakfast at Pamela's in Mt. Lebanon, on Saturday, with LADTM (like a daughter to me). I just had the bacon, eggs, and pancakes at $6.99. LADTM said that she was hungry, so she ordered the ham, eggs, pancakes, with about a dozen blueberries, and potatoes. This totaled $11.50, plus tax. Two coffees were $3.50. The total, with coffee, came to $23.53. Then, of course there was the tip. I guess I will continue to go to the local "Smiley" restaurant.
Wonderful
My daughter and I always have breakfast at Pamela's. Her favorite is the chocolate chip pancakes....I love the strawberry...Never visit Pitt without eating here.
Love the Pancakes
I always have the stuffed pancakes. I've tried all the varieties. Strawberry is my favorite. What makes them so special is the fact that they use real fruit and not the saucy compote stuff. I'll miss Pamela's when I move.
