For a taste of rural England right in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, check out T.C. Eggington's Brunchery, one of the East Valley's most popular breakfast and lunch destinations. T.C.'s celebrates the chicken and egg with a steady stream of stuffed-to-order omelets, specialty sandwiches and a garden of greens. They also toss in a quirky helping of British humor. Only at T.C.'s, for example, can you find 10-inch ''girdle'' cakes, named with a play on the Old English meaning of the word ''girdle'' as a belt to go around the (pancake-broadened) waist. These pancakes, by the way, are made from scratch with fresh ingredients such as buttermilk and sour cream, and come accompanied by whipped honey-butter and warm syrup.

Also paying tribute to the Brits are the fresh-baked English-style muffins and orchard-fresh Shoogles (that's smoothies to us Yanks). Can't-miss dishes on the breakfast menu include the Eggington Omelette (chicken, mushroom, broccoli and cream cheese with a rich hollandaise), thick-sliced English toast with a French flair and the refreshing vegetable gardina frittata. For lunch, try out the baked potato soup, Classic Dickens Salad (veggies with sauteed chicken in a honey-mustard-bacon sauce) or the focaccia turkey-pepper melt. Just like the rural English countryside, the setting features clean, open and airy spaces, crisp garden colors and pictures of cows and chickens.

The portions are huge but you can order reduced sizes if you have a smaller appetite. I love their french toast or greek fetash omelette for breakfast and they have great salads and homemade soups for lunch. Even better they have lattes and great smoothies so I don't have to stop at Starbucks !

I have been eating at TC Eggingtons every sunday for 20 years. My parents and grandparents have been going there 10 years before I was born. The service is excellent, I actually was babysat by one of the waitresses named Jody years ago. The food is to die for, anytime I eat breakfast out that is not at TC Eggingtons I regret it. This is the friendliest, most delicious place and I cannot imagine my Sunday's without it.

Our family has been going to Eggington's for breakfast for years, always a good experience, quality of food is very dependable. Love the farmhouse atmosphere. Love the attention paid to everything from waitresses, waiters, to the owner being there, and the restaurant cleanliness and the breakfast and lunch menu choices.
