For a homemade breakfast or lunch, no place is better than this College Park eatery. Stacks of steaming pancakes, eggs and bacon served with grits or hashbrowns, three-egg omelets and biscuits and gravy are just some of the home-cooked specialties on the morning menu. Locals frequent the cafe for the lunchtime faree -- mostly sandwiches and salads, like the California chef salad, piled high with turkey, cheese, walnuts and raisins. Quiche selections vary daily but are always tasty. Sandwiches vary from the classic -- pastrami and roast beef are our favorites -- to the unusual -- the smokey is a Dagwood-style creation with smoked turkey smothered in coleslaw, bacon and melted Swiss cheese. A different selection of homemade soups is available daily, too. For your sweet tooth, Shakers' famous carrot cake is a winner.
