As Dallas' coolest late-night hangout, Cafe Brazil's claim to fame is delicious food, reasonable prices, a truly unique atmosphere and late, late hours. Each Metroplex location attracts a wide variety of patrons -- from pierced "alterna-teens" to Park Cities yuppies to aspiring pseudo intellectuals. On various nights, you might even catch a local folkie strumming away on acoustic guitar just inches from your table, and the staff is as colorful as the modern art adorning the mural-painted walls. The eclectic menu (heavy on the vegetarian offerings) features something for every appetite: spinach omelets, smoked turkey crepes, Brazilian burgers, seafood sandwiches, steak quesadillas and hearty fish platters. For a little something sweet, try the pancrepes with creme anglaise, raspberry sauce, walnuts and powdered sugar. Or, check out the amazing cakes and rich desserts -- they go perfectly with Cafe Brazil's signature selection of coffees (bonus: The cup is bottomless). -- Jessica Parker

  • Happy feeling

I love coming to Cafe Brazil. The one downtown is my favorite. The place is all about the food and coffee, but the feel of the place is very artistic and avant guard. The wait staff is cool and quiet and sometimes you'll be blessed to have one that talks, but that isn't a negative. The staff is there to GET YOUR FOOD TO YOU, period. And get it to you they do. It's always hot, fresh and GOOD. Breakfast is always my choice and you can get it all day...that's a big plus. Go and try and decide. I'm sure you'll love it. Just remember it is a young world artsy world you are going in to.

the last, and i emphasize last, time i tried to eat at the cafe brazil on greenville ave., the service was awful, but that wasn't the clincher. after we finally ordered the waiter came back and informed us that they were out of cheese for an omelet and rice for a side dish. this was at 11:30 am on a week day. the waiter acted like it was no big deal, which to her it probably wasn't.

  • Maybe before they were bought

Before being bought by their new owner but after exdpanding from the one Dallas location, Cafe Brazil was a fabulous place to eat at any time. Also a great place to have coffee or for friends with various levels of vegetarianism to eat together. However, since the switch, flexibility, food quality and service hve gone to pot. Well, maybe coke (and I don't mean the drink)? We are realtively certain our waiter stepped out behind the restaurant on one occasion to improve his attitude, coming back with red-rimmed eyes, and an attitude that harkened back to the 60's when some of our party was in college. We used to eat there regularly both before and after marriage and family but since the purchase, we won't be back. The managers don't even have the ability to make customers happy. I would hate to see their reaction to someone's food allergies. We swore never to go back, any easy primise to keep.
