It was almost as if the place reopened overnight -- at least that's how it seemed to us. Downtown workers were disappointed when Frisch's, a longtime staple in the heart of the business district, closed its doors. But fear not, sleepy heads: Rise & Shine Cafe has filled the void by offering egg-licious and meaty breakfasts to power up the morning. In fact, not much has changed inside the place, either: Folks grab a seat at the counter or cuddle into a booth, are greeted by a gum-chewing waitress, and order the same ol' American faves -- breakfast biscuit sandwiches, omelettes and egg dishes, pancakes, and French toast. (Of course, one must never neglect sides such as sausage, grits, hash browns or bacon.) A couple of salads, burgers, sandwiches and a fried catfish dinner add enough variety to the menu to keep the place as a good lunch or dinner option, too. However, the name's emphasis on early-morning specialties is on the mark -- breakfast choices rule the menu and are served all day.
