Save an endangered species and visit a true mom-and-pop greasy spoon, like this one in Northside. Open since 1967 (it has the dark paneling and Naugahyde booths to prove it), the Blue Jay has been fulfilling breakfast and lunch needs locals at bargain-basement prices. Never too crowded to offer a seat, but never so empty you wonder what's wrong, the place is a best-kept secret for good, cheap food among families and folks who work in the area. Belly up to the lunch counter (complete with original, shiny swiveling stools) and order from a list of dozens of sandwiches and double-deckers. Or you can go for a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns and, of course, goetta. For the real deal, settle into a cushy booth and order up a steaming-hot plate of Cincinnati-style chili, up to a five-way (spaghetti, chili, beans, cheese and onions). And when you're just about ready to burst, top it all off with a fresh cup o' joe and a piece of homemade pie.

Excellent food.

Very old and dirty. Need to update in a clean way. And can we get some health department reports on this place. The food may be good but how else can an egg really taste. We need to have a real non smoking section and employees who will wash tables with a clean wash rag. Also employees who smoke need to wash their hands after smoking. Sorry but I was turned off when I visited this place.
