Descend the wooden staircase in the back corner of the Georgetown branch of Pizzeria Paradiso and youll find a refreshingly unpretentious tavern-like setting in the basement. The rustic dcor in this small hideway, complete with a corner brick fireplace, fosters a relaxing atmosphere so that customers can focus on whats most important at Birreria Paradiso: Beer.

General manager Thor Chestons goal is to introduce sophisticated brews that, when paired with pizza, enhance the dining experience just as a glass of wine would. Of course, this means that you wont find Miller Light here: The selections consist mostly of varied microbrews and handcrafted beers. One notable choice is Duchesse de Bourgogne, a Flemish red ale with hints of fruit and chocolate. If thats not available, though, dont worry: There are 16 draft beer selections and another 80 brews available in bottles. The menu changes regularly so repeated trips to Birreria Paradiso wont leave you feeling bored.

Half-price drafts and specials on selected pizzas and antipasto plates are available on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5 to 7. With table seating for 20, its important to get there early. For truly attentive service, though, snag a stool at the bar: Those who are at the tables sometimes get overlooked by the waitstaff.

What's Next: After dinner and drinks, move onto dessert and have crepes at Cafe Bonaparte.

    Although I'm originally from NYC and will admit to being choosy about my pizza, I can actually say I'd prefer to eat at Pizzeria Uno's right across the street than to ever eat here again. First off the service...we were told the wait would be 20 minutes and we ended up waiting 50+. Have them bring you bread while you wait? Forget about it, they charge $2 for 4 small pieces(mind you it's a pizza place, dough is in abundance here)...and as for the olives they serve, you're better off eating salt straight from the shaker. On to the pizza, the word tasteless is an understatement. The actual crust took up half the pizza, all the toppings were shoved in a small pile in the very center of the pie. No garlic, no oregano, no basil, no pizza sauce....it's sounding less and less like a real pizza by the minute here. We asked for a side of sauce in attempt to add some flavor and they brought ice cold, unseasoned diced tomatoes. This place is a complete joke, so don't be lured in by the "trendy/cool" atmosphere, trust me on this one. If you want to actually get what you $pay$ for...save yourself the time, aggravation, and money and GO ELSEWHERE!
