Old photos of Minnesota's early microbreweries line the walls of this classic lounge. With a frequently changing selection of home-brewed specialties, anyone can find a beer they enjoy at Town Hall, and much of the fun is in the trying. Spend time renting the pool table, lounging on couches or simply enjoying the drinks. Weeknights fill up around 10PM with college kids taking advantage of the $2 pint specials, although on Tuesday a more refined crowd enjoys Cigar and Scotch night. Aside from a few exceptional appetizers, Town Hall's menu serves mostly as a complement to their prized brews. -- Wesley Amann

Good beer, good food, good tim
We tried the beer sampler (7, 3-oz beers) for $7.00. Great deal and a great way to try a little of everything. We didn't have a favorite, but some were pretty interesting (like the blueberry beer that has a bitter inital taste with a blueberry pie aftertaste).
The University Wrap with teriyaki chicken is literally the best wrap I have ever had. They have a great ginger soy sauce and is full of grilled veggies. Absolutely wonderful. Their french fries taste a little too deep fried, but greasy and beer go well together.
The buffalo chicken sandwich was really good. It is grilled instead of fried, so it is healthier. A little bit spicy, but very good.
We sat outside because this is a great area to people watch. Very close to U of M. Parking may be harder to come by unless you find a meter.Comments(0)|Add CommentConsistently Horrible Service
This is one of
MinnesotaÂs very few
brew pubs. My wife
and I have been
regular customers at
Town Hall for the past
five years. We go
there for the casual
atmosphere and the
great beer that
Brewmaster Mike
Hoops makes. But
that is were the good
ends.
Over the past couple
of years the service at
Town Hall has
steadily declined. At
first we were
surprised to wait 5 or
10 minutes for a beer.
Now, it has
deteriorated to the
point at which the wait
staff has brought food
to our table without
silverware... and did
not return until we
grabbed someone for
our bill. During
another visit we
waited 45 minutes
until we were able to
place our beer order.
During another visit
we waited 15 minutes
until we grabbed a
waiter to take our
order. We were there
with several people
who were planning to
depart at separate
times, yet the waiter
refused to let us pay
cash as we ordered,
and later brought me
the wrong beer. On
another occasion we
ordered onion rings
instead of fries with
our burger. What did
we get? Fries. And
just last week the
waiter failed to fill our
growler (or even stop
by) before the 8pm off-
sale deadline. And to
top it off, the wait staff
knows virtually
nothing about the craft
beer they are serving.
Yes, Town Hall
possibly has the most
consistent horrible
service in the Twin
Cities area.
A couple of months
ago I addressed
some of these issues
in an email to Town
Hall management. I
received a reply
stating that they were
working on the
problem. I forwarded
the same email to
Mike Hoops. He
apologized and sent
us coupons for a
couple of free pints.
IÂm sorry to say, after
last week, there is still
a problem.
The food is regular
bar food. Dishes tend
to be on the spicy
side. However, the
food is very
inconsistent. If you
like it the first time,
donÂt expect the same
experience on your
next visit.
If you want great food,
great service and a
pint of great locally
brewed beer, try
Barley JohnÂs.MoneyParty2001's Review
I have been a regular patron of Town Hall for about 4 years. The cozy traditional pub atmosphere, and brew quality that is second to none in the Twin Cities make this brew pub the overall best hang out for beer snobs in the metro area. However, Town Hall has some room for improvement. If you sift through the menu you may find a few gems. My wife and I split a black bean burger (a vegetarian burger) with a couple of pints of IPA. The burger is spicy, topped with salsa, making this pairing one of the best. Other good selections, are the Rachel, or Ruben sandwiches. Again, they pair well with the IPA. I little known pairing that we stumbled upon last summer is their award winning Imperial Stout (seasonal) with a Root Beer float. It seems like it shouldn't work, but it does.
Vera's Review
They recently came out with a new menu that is full of great dishes, my favorite being the terriaki chicken sandwich. The beer is the best in the twin cities, mine being the scotch ale. Their servers are great and look like they really enjoy what they do. The atmosphere is great, candles on the tables, Frank Sinatra playing, and couches to relax on, what more could you ask for.
