''You can never have too many brew-pubs,'' seems to be the philosophy in Portland. Amnesia Brewing serves the burgeoning Mississippi corridor with a small array of hand-crafted ales and lagers. The beers are made not only on site, but within sight of patrons, in a big, open warehouse. Comfortable but bare-bones, the high-ceilinged, echoing space never lets you forget that this place is here, first and foremost, for purposes of fermentation. The beer garden out front, right smack on the sidewalk, is the place for sausages and brew in warm weather. A big, black barbecue smokes away there whenever the weather allows. A small selection of food is available year round, including a few veggie options. Look for live, local blues and jazz bands on special occasions.

Here is what is wrong with this place:
1) The atmosphere is nonexistent, crappy uncomfortable tables, and chairs, cramped, so you can hardly move around, and way, way too noisy.
2) The sound systems, which the wait staff insist, on playing, is flat out lousy. For over 18 months it had only one channel, and all the staff did was turn it up louder!
3) The food is mono-dimensional, all barbeque, with half cooked sausages, and hamburgers, which come garnished with either potato chips or no potato chips, and will run you seven bucks. Also, since opening there has not been one change to the menu, so get use to it, and don't complain.
4) The beer is almost as uni-dimensional as the food. Two IPA's just went enough, so they added a third! All the beers taste green, and unfinished, except perhaps the porter, and that is just average. The only beer to come from this dump that is even mildly interesting, was the cherry ale, called Sour Power, and it was an utter failure, so tart that it was utterly undrinkable, and was eventually dumped to free up keg space. Of course it was only dumped, after, it was pushed on the public for a couple of months
5) The outside area is soo smokey, for the barbeque, and smokers that it is completely oppressive. In the summer months, patrons outside report getting dizzy from lack of oxygen, and go inside to escape the heat.
6) The only bright spot in the whole place, is Ms. Adrian Sloan, the best server there, and a very fine person indeed.
So, in short, AVOID this DUMP!Comments(0)|Add Comment
