Nestled among Montana Avenue's designer boutiques, Father's Office is a paean to post-modern cool with its dim lighting and meager decor. The bar wall reads like a United Nations of microbrews, including staples such as the Horny Devil and Delirium Nocturnum, while the tapas menu is a cosmopolitan mix of aged chorizo cheese, olive medleys and paprika-dusted almonds. Sweet-potato fries served 'a la carte' in miniature shopping trolleys are a delight, but the famed Office Burger, with its aged Gruyere and bleu cheeses, smoked apple-wood bacon and caramelized onions, is the joint's flagship offering. The Office Jukebox (well, CD player, anyway) seals the mellow vibe with mood music from Portishead and Morcheeba, but don't be fooled, this place rocks on weekends as a steady wave of both Westside locals and out-of-towners clamber to take in Santa Monica's savvy, young socialites and the area's best selection of import draughts. -- Jeremy Horelick

  • Burger Nazi... maybe

    Review rating : 5out of 5   EJ SKURO - 03/01/2009

I wanted to hold the cheese on my burger. Their strict policy of no changes/no substitutes required that I have it their way. I would have missed, possibly, the best burger I've ever had. And, I am a believer in eating what the chef prepares, his way. The place is unique. Even their martini's are a little neurotic. But, If I feel like something different--or traditional-- I go somewhere else, or make it at home.

F.O. II opened recently on the L.A.-Culver City border is every bit as good as the original with more room! Unquestionably the best burger in Los Angeles. All of my out-of-town guests want to go there, so I take them.

  • Burger Nazi

    Review rating : 1out of 5   WOFTER - 06/27/2008

God forbid you are allergic to blue cheese you are out of luck here. Take it or leave it the way they serve it. No if comes or maybes. This regime is run by a control freak who could care less whether you like ktechup or whether cheese makes you sick. He shoves his habits down your throat. He gives new meaning to the Seinfeld character of a restaurant owning Nazi. And still they stand in line and lodr knows why! I am serious I dont care how good the meat is this is place for the truly subservient
