The type of kitschy theme eatery commonly found in the suburbs, Alcatraz is located in the heart of downtown Indy. You can wind down there after a day of shopping or get a quick bite to eat before the play or movie (theaters of both kinds are within walking distance). Theme decor involves lots of metal -- but, thankfully, cinderblock and actual cons have been omitted, and the interior is a step up from even the average white- collar "correctional facility." The menu consists of regular meals and decent bar food. The waffle fries with cracked pepper and Gorgonzola are deadly, and the onion rings are described as "assault & battered." The home brew selection is excellent, if you can swallow cute monikers like "Big House Red," "Lights Out Stout" and "Weiss Guy Wheat Beer." -- MS
