That buzz you hear on entry to Blue Cactus Cafe is the revival of the lost art of conversation over a satisfying meal. After all, the place does offer plenty to talk about. Located in the historic building that once served as the Wetmore General Store and Post Office, Blue Cactus Cafe's rustic wooden facade and homey dining areas (complete with antlered trophy mounts) harbor a family-friendly atmosphere. The Welcome to Texas sign anchored flush to the dining room ceiling also speaks volumes about the easygoingness of the place. If you've got the family in tow, feel free to turn the little ones loose in the Kids Corral play area. On the menu, the brisket is a top seller -- though parties of four or more favor the Pig-Out Platters that offer four barbecue meats and three sides to boot. The weekday lunch specials are mostly under $7 and include sides and a soft beverage. Draft and bottled beer, wine and margaritas are also available. It's a musical potpourri Thursdays through Sundays when The Blue Cactus Cafe hosts bluegrass, rock, rockabilly and more. Inside or out (weather permitting), the scene is vintage Texas. If all that doesn't loosen up your tongue for some table talk, nothin' will.

  • Redneck squalor

The food was cold and burned, the waiters were grumpy. I would never take my family to this place. It's dirty.

I have been to the Blue Cactus when the service was great and I have been when the service was nonexistent and we left after an hour wait with no explanation from seemly uncaring staff as to when we might get fed. We weren't the only ones leaving. So you take your chances when you go. The food is good. However, they recently changed their unique potato salad recipe (which I prefer) to an average one.

We took our son there for his 26th birthday and they were out of brisket??? when the chicken fried steak arrived -they were burnt and the next ones were a solid plate of breading-refills were hard to come by + everything was bland and the green beans were inedible-we ate there before and the BBQ was fair but this was ridiculous....

The Blue Cactus Cafe is fantastic! Service was very good and very friendly! It was our first time to visit and our waitress related with us so well that it seemed we were one of her regulars... which we are now!!! BBQ was very tasty and the burgers were delicous!!! Chicken fried steak was excellent!!! The live music and kids play areas created a very relaxed and chilled atmosphere! While we were there, a sports team was having there team party and they seemed to be having great time! I plan on having my daughters soccer party at Blue Cactus at the end of the season!! Great job Blue Cactus Cafe employees and wait staff!! Ya'll have my families business!!!

  • Best in Texas!

After visiting with some friends, I can't believe I had not heard of this place yet! As a self-proclaimed BBQ afficianado, I have tried all of the best in the area. I have to admit that Blue Cactus is now at the top of my list! Here's why: We had the "Pig-Out Platter" our first time and the brisket, ribs, chicken, and sausage were among the best I have ever tried. On our second visit, our group had burgers, Chicken fired Steak and the smoked Turkey. The first two were great, but I have never had Turkey so moist and tasty! Since most BBQ places have counter service, I was pleasantly surprised by the super firendly and efficient staff!
