Lots of barbecue chefs have a trophy or two hanging on the wall. Roger and Cheryl Wagner have more than 100 prizes, including dozens of national and international cook-offs. But it's not the hardware that brings hordes of hungry people to this bargain-priced, pretty-in-pink restaurant. In fact, there's not enough room for all the trophies, because of the hundreds of decorative pigs adorning the walls. It's a fun, laid-back place where people drive from miles around to devour what many barbecue connoisseurs swear is the best 'cue in Arizona. The Wagners hand-rub their meats with special spices, then slow-smoke them in a pit for up to 18 hours. Along with daily St. Louis-cut spareribs, beef, pulled pork and chicken, Thee Pitts serves rib tips on Tuesdays and Thursdays, smoked spicy sausage on Wednesdays, smoked catfish on Friday and a pork sundae --a sundae glass layered with pulled pork, beans and coleslaw -- on Sunday. The barbecue is served on sandwiches or on combo plates with cornbread and honey butter. Lunch and dinner sides include fries, mashed spuds, potato salad, cole slaw, BBQ beans and corn on the cob.

Hnrygross - 06/28/2008I have just moved to the valley and have eaten at all the chain BBQ places. Its all warmed in a microwave and has no real taste and just a smoke flavor additive. Unbeleivable how many place just add a flavor to there meat??? The only place in the valley that has real slow cooked BBQ is "Thee pitts again"!! Keep in mind that this place is a diner and has been extremely busy but the little wait is worth it!! I have had BBQ all over the country and this is the best I have ever had!!! Dont waste your time going to a chain where the food is just reheated and tainted with smoke in a bottle. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!!!!! There may be a wait bec. of the food network showing but it is a diner and there is plenty to look at while you are waiting. If you come on peak hours there is a wait but when i\s the last time you didnt have to wait for something good. The owners try very hard to give you the best product av ailable!! AND THEY DO!!!! No body can compete. I read alot of other raitings and people are in to big of a hurry these days. Go and be patient and you will return time and time again!!!
