This increasingly popular chain is consistently praised for its family-style atmosphere (hello, early bird specials) and the abundance of the generously portioned and decently prized BBQ meat. It's got some local recognition as well. Fat Jack's has won the Philadelphia Magazine "Best Barbeque" in 2006, with an enthusiastic nod to its hickory-smoked spare ribs, caramelized from a dry rub (which consists of paprika, cayenne and brown sugar), with optional Kansas City-style sauce. Fat Jack's specialty is BBQ, Southern style: The hickory-smoked pork and beef ribs, Texas beef brisket, Memphis pulled chicken, Carolina pulled pork. There are also heaping platters of the classic diner fare, plus New Orleans jambalaya, grilled shrimp sticks, chili, a sweet potato pie, and Southern sides (try the cornbread).
