Though the atmosphere and the prices are a little more upscale at Summit Hickory Pit BBQ, the food is a lot like the less pricey places. The staff does go out of their way to cater to the customer's needs here, though, and that counts for a lot. The meats are smoked and slathered in a not-too-spicy and not-too-sweet sauce, and the beans are pretty good, but if you really love beans, order the crock -- the side dish is small. If you have a large party, Summit Hickory Pit BBQ is prepared to handle up to 80 people in one of two private rooms, and they'll bring the food to you, as well. -- Kate Cagley

    I have been a fan for years! Out of all and I mean all the BBQ joints around KC and surrounding areas. I have never had better. The ribs are always fall off the bone. The beef is so moist. The pulled pork which is new is so succulent. I could go on and on and on, but why. If you don' t believe that a place this good exsist, then try it for yourself. You and your friends will not be disapointed.
    As for the staff. They are simply amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. They always go out of their way to keep the hospitality a flowin. My drinks are always filled to the rim, tables always cleared and smiles are warm and free... If you need a place to host large events, this is the only place in town. The are flawless and very accomidating to every guest. They still offer separate checks. WOW! Just remeamber, this still is the best kept secret in Lee's Summit.
    Yum, I think I am hungry now. Oh, don't forget the Bread Pudding.....mmmm....

    Sometimes , if you get to the BBQ during off-peak times and you are not mindful of what you order, you might get food that is not at it's best. 99.9 percent of the time, the food is excellent, the service is prompt, and all the personel are very accommadating. I would suggest that if you are not satisfied, contact a manager for corrections. It sounds like some of their competitors wrote one of these reviews..MR. BILL

    Although the decor/ambience is better than at some of the other BBQ joints, Summit Hickory Pit BBQ has suffered a slow steady steep decline. The past few times my family has been there it was terrible. The last straw was the last time we went when our table was dirty, the bench seat was torn, the chipped dinner plates were dirty, drinks weren't refilled promptly (if at all), and the quality of the food was poor. Although the fries were cold, the barbecue sauce on the sliced meat platter was warm albeit dried and crusted onto the plate, like it had been left under a warmer too long. If the problems had occurred just once, maybe we'd give it anothe shot, but we tried, tried, and tried again with similar results. We, along with friends and family that have had similar experiences, haven't been back.
