In the South, many consider it a crime to offer lackluster barbecue. That this Grant Park barbecue joint has been in business for more than 50 years, and that owner Harold Hembree hasn't been sent to the nearby Federal Penitentiary, is a testament to its quality.
Opened in 1947 by Hembree, Harold's is not located in swankiest part of town, and its wood-paneled walls are not much to look at, but it's the food that matters, and if Harold knows anything, it's how to make barbecue. From the pulled-pork sandwiches to the fall-off-the-bone ribs, there is enough comfort food here to put you in a state of belly-filling bliss. And, as barbecue aficionados will tell you, Brunswick stew and cornbread go hand in hand with 'cue. Harold adheres to this unwritten rule, and his stew and his cracklin' cornbread (cornbread cooked with pork fat meat) are favorites in their own right. -- Tony Jenkins

WHAT?
The BBQ pork had NO flavor and the brunswick stew was worse....how this place had been around for 50 years is beyond me. How it is ranked at # 4 is unbelieveable. It was horrible.
