Step from the everyday shopping mall into a tropical rainforest with booming thunderstorms, wild animals swinging from trees and an erupting volcano. Welcome to the Valley branch of the popular Rainforest Cafe chain. Hidden in the vast jungle before making programmed, enraged appearances are hollering gorillas, trumpeting elephants and snapping crocodiles. Some of the action is so loud that toddlers may find it a frightening experience. But older kids can become so enthralled by the wild, non-stop action that they can forget to eat their lunch or dinner. Even adults sometimes have to be nudged. Some of the props are real, like shrieking parrots and a captivating, two-story aquarium filled with colorful fish.

There are few complaints about the quality of the food, nor the many menu choices. But if you're expecting to find food prices comparable to similar fare at ordinary restaurants, you'll be disappointed. Other restaurants don't bear the expense of an admission-free indoor amusement park. Generally, adult appetizers and burgers are in the $8 range; sandwiches, salads and pizzas around $10 and entrees from $12 to $16. However, portions are huge, even on the extensive kids' menu, and often large enough for sharing. Rainforest Cafe is so popular that you can usually expect a wait, even with reservations. -- Cecil Tuck

This is the worst place I have ever ate. There is always a line to get in..... I guess it is to see the wows for the kids inside. If that is not it these people really need to get out more. The food is so over priced and the food is the worst. If you want to see what is inside I would suggest to order a drink and eat somewhere else.

The first time the family walked into a Rainforest Cafe in California we were fascinated by the jungle setting and the sound effects. We figured, what the heck, we'll try it out. I ordered the seafood combo plate. While we were waiting for our food, we were entertained with the jungle show and read the information signs on the different fish in their aquariums. When we got our food, we were amazed at how much we had on our plates! The food was delicious and the service was great. That was in 2003. We went there several more times and added the restaurant as one of favorite restaurants to visit. We moved to Flagstaff in 2004 and the closest restaurant is in Phoenix and we make sure to visit the restaurant there while we are in town. The restaurant has great entertainment and you won't be sitting there bored to death wondering when your food will arrive at your table. If you haven't been to one, you should try it out at least once.
