The waiter was so rude!

The worst service at a fine dining establishment! We went to the Ocean Club on Feb 10th, 2008, my birthday, and were looking forward to a great seafood and excellent service. The waiter, Tommy, asked if we were planning on a "nice" bottle of wine. We told him we were so he handed us the wine list. When Tommy returned, my boyfriend explained we wanted a bottle of Pinot Grigio, a disgusted look came over Tommy's face, he dropped his head and after a few seconds looked up at ME and said, "Sorry, we are supposed to keep our composure," basically laughing at what he viewed as the inappropriateness of our wine selection and continued incredulously, " I thought we were going to have a 'nice' bottle of wine tonight." My boyfriend had also ordered himself a glass of scotch to enjoy before our meal so Tommy, in his rush to judgment about Pinot Grigio, assumed my boyfriend wouldn't be drinking anything so mundane and stated, "OK, a glass of wine for you and a scotch," he wasn't even going to bring us the bottle we ordered! We couldn't believe Tommy's attitude and insulting behavior so, even though it was by birthday, I said I would rather leave than have to endure Tommy's attitude. The funny thing is that Tommy was speechless when we left and I stopped to tell him I found his comments completely insulting. What is even more amazing, for a supposedly high-end Scottsdale restaurant, is that out of three hostesses and the MANAGER at the hostess stand, only one hostess muttered "sorry" as I told them the waiter was incredibly rude. The manager didn't even respond or ask what happened! Even if he was stunned he could have followed us out the door or call to apologize, they had our telephone number on the reservation! What we did get was their standard impersonal follow-up call the next day on our voice mail saying, "thank you for dining with us recently we hope you had a pleasurable experience and hope to see you again." UNBELIEVABLE and IMPERSONAL!

Fabulous Place!

I love this restaurant! The bar is very cool, with live piano music and a hip vibe. The open windowed restaurant has a relaxed feeling and the food is excellent. Every once in a while you just need a great steak, and this is the place to get one. The seafood and sides are also excellent...something for everyone. We have dined here with friends and for business/social occasions.

If you haven't been to one of Mastro's masterpieces, get there now! If you simply crave a fine steak, head to Mastro's Steak House, however, if you don't know what you want, head to Mastro's Ocean Club. Here you can have it all, steak, seafood, and some of the best veggie sides ever! Don't waste your time on the chicken. Explore their vast selection of steaks and seafood. You can't go wrong! Pricey, but worth every cent! You won't be disappointed by this exquisite establishment!

This is my favorite restaurant in town. I take all "out-of-towners" and they rave about it. I even had one guest want to "buy them out." Their "O" bar is fun, energetic, and fantastic people watching...the drinks are so bad either. I suggest ordering any martini as they come loaded with dry ice to entice the table next to you to ask what you ordered. The fish is outstanding and top notch. It's freshly delivered and cut each day in their own fish room on an ice table. The service is professional yet friendly. I'm in the restaurant business and am a raving fan of this restaurant.

Food and service are outstanding and even tho expensive,,,worth the price, However,,,I would like them to do away with the maids in the ladies room...they jump all over you and you feel intimidated. This practice is so outdated..I don't know of another restaurant (except Maestro...same owner) who does this anymore.

I'm from Chicago and make it a point to go the Ocean Club for dinner every time I'm in Phoenix. The food is superb and the service is next to none. The Ocean Club's prices, while admittedly steep for Phoenix, are remarkably reasonable when compared with prices of similar establishments in other cities. The Lounge is comfortable and the wine list excellent. Plan to spend the evening and take two to three hours enjoying the meal, ambiance and company. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable and never rushes you through dinner. The place is fantastic!
