Part neighborhood barbecue, part wild, swinging block party, Monasteries across the Valley are where crowds of people are having way too much fun. Outside, people are sitting in lounge chairs on the grass, spread out among the sand volleyball courts or playing numerous other games. Or they're gathered around the grills cooking lunch or dinner from the fresh meat they just bought at the counter. Choose from hamburgers, hot dogs, pork chops, steaks and chicken breasts -- all budget-priced -- and head for the grills. Condiments and side dishes are provided. Inside, where male bartenders dressed in monk outfits serve up beer, wine and margaritas, there are more games. Foosball, ping pong, pool, darts and chess are only the beginning. Kids and even pets on leashes are allowed during the day. But come 8PM, the place goes "adults only" with festivities like raucous bikini contests. If you party too hearty, the Monastery even provides a free taxi ride home. Note: Though it's a "cash only" joint, there is an ATM on the premises.
