Islands has wormed its way into the hearts of suburban families with a surprisingly sneaky attack strategy: Cloak a family restaurant in enough tropical bar/sport bar trappings that Mom and Dad feel like they're going someplace kind of cool, create a menu of familiar food jazzed up a tropical edge and keep the prices moderate. Order from a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, whopping salads such as the super-good China Coast and the better-than-average soft tacos. Even still, the most popular items on the menu are still Islands' scrumptious, monstrous burgers, big enough that most people require a doggie bag. Also try the veggie Californias. Kids under 12 can eat off the Gremmie menu, which features kid-sized favorites for kid-sized prices.
The bar area works hard to be a scene, but the family-friendly restaurant surroundings keep the vibe mighty wholesome in spite of the surprisingly effective margaritas. The Pacific Rim-surfer-themed decor is relentless and unapologetic.

Good food and attention to detail

We love going to the Islands. The food is good, the servers friendly, and the place is really clean. The manager on duty always stops by our table to see how everything is. I highly recommend.

al71t - 07/10/2006Went to check the place out --not impressed at all. I had the cheesburger/fries. The buns were stiff,cold meat not very tasty. I don't get the tropical theme,seems out of place for hamburgers. I would not go there again. You can get a much better burger at Ruby Tuesdays or other places for that matter.

I don't recommend the chili burger , just like more crushed hamburger on top and no taste , Managers never replied to complaint.... So I would pass on these hamburgers .. Fuddruckers, In and Out are much better in the area.

mhnay - 03/29/2005I love guacamole and I love burgers but I have to say even I've tried the Tempe location more than once, hoping that they'll do something about the food, no luck,,,,the last time I was there I didn't even finish my burger,,,,and for me that only happens when the food is reeeeeeeeeeeally bad
