The granddaddy of Indy's sushi bars, Sakura continues to be the favorite of sushi aficionados. It's not fancy like the slick, newer places that have opened around the city, but the food is still great and the atmosphere, though crowded, is comfortable and welcoming. Great food, not fancy digs, is the emphasis at Sakura, one of the city's first sushi bars. It's usually packed for lunch and dinner with Indy natives and visiting VIPs. Our favorite spot is a stool at the sushi bar where smoking is not allowed, and you have a prime view of the bountiful seafood. The signature Sakura maki is a piece of art with the colorful, thin slices of fish encasing the mega roll. Begin with a seaweed salad and sip a bowl of miso soup while pondering the list of entrees and sushi selections. Chopsticks replace silverware here, and no one will frown if you happen to slurp while trying to navigate slippery soba noodles out of a savory broth.

Wonderful sushi
ultrasoundlass - 03/13/2005I have been to Sakura many, many times and the sushi is the best I've ever had. The place is always busy but it's well worth the wait. It's a little pricey, but I believe you get what you pay for...same as you would for a good steak dinner. I would recommend Sakura without hesitation!

akrski - 12/12/2004Uni and Saba seamed fresh enough and were not dry when served. Size of fish and rice were traditional size. Rice contained too much water and did not sustain shape of grain; however, rice was intact after dipping in soysauce. Variety of sushi was minimal, there were not many house specials. Other Japanese dishes were somewhat American flavor, but it was average quality in midwest. Price was very reasonable. For casual and family dining, this place is recommended. Overall, this place is better than average.

corrina6211976 - 09/12/2003I eat there about once a week. I agree that the service isn't like classic, over-enthusiastic american service, but it is by no means bad! The sashimi and sushi are the best in town with the best selections and the best chef specials. I love Sakura!

jhugart - 05/08/2003The sushi at Sakura continues to live up to its reputation as outstanding. If there is a downside to dining there it would be that the last 2-3 times we have gone there the wait for the food has been unacceptably long.

shuffit5 - 01/01/2003I felt the food was not worth the price. I don't mind paying for what we get but I do not like paying to hear children running everywhere. We couldn't even enjoy any part of our meal. Wouldn't tell any one to go there. We went over the weekend. Maybe It would be quiter during the week. Also inprove your food preporation. Jan
