In terms of atmosphere, Chinatown's got a hefty selling point over local Austin competition -- it's not in a strip mall. The Northwest Austin restaurant is in a dedicated building with impressive views overlooking... well, Mopac, but at night the downtown city lights form a romantic backdrop. Various forms of classic Chinese American cuisine in Mandarin, Hunan, Cantonese and Shanghai styles are available, such as General Tso's chicken, but the proprietor, Ronald Cheng, has also authorized the creation of more iconoclastic treats such as honey pepper steak and rabbit in orange sauce.
